Thanks to its rich history, architectural monuments and attractive countryside location, the town of Tábor is one of the Czech Republic´s most favourite tourist spots. Today, Tábor is the second largest town in South Bohemia and has become a major transport, economic, administrative and cultural centre in the region.
Geographic information
The Tábor region is a part of South Bohemia where the compelling natural and historic environment has been preserved. A large part of the Tábor region is occupied by the Tábor Uplands and the Třeboň Basin. The entire region is dominated by the Lužnice River. The highest point of the Tábor Uplands is 700m above sea level, while its forests are mainly spruce or mixed species. A system of lakes and canals has been built in the Třeboň Basin area, with flood plain forests and numerous peat bogs. Elevation above sea level varies between 430 - 530m. The remainder of the region is made up of the cultural landscape - fields, meadows, roads and inhabited areas. The Tábor region measures 1.300 km2. The highest point in the City of Tábor – Žižka Square – lies 449 m above sea level.
