The Tábor Meetings Festival - September (always Friday - Sunday)
Venue: historical centre, main programme in Žižka Square
Organized by: The Town of Tábor and the Foundation Fund – Tábor Meetings
The Tábor Meetings Festival is inspired by medieval history, it has a very specific atmosphere which results from the traditions of the place where it takes place. Once a year the centre of Tábor changes into a medieval town with stall keepers, craftsmen, jousting knights, dancers, conjurors and musicians. On Friday the unique atmosphere is emphasized by the festive parade through the town led by Jan Žižka himself, by fireworks and other cultural events. Saturday always offers a very varied programme where everyone can find something to enjoy – theatre performances and concerts by Czech and foreign ensembles. It is a must to try some of the medieval titbits offered in several period taverns in the centre of town. You can taste not only special local drinks such as “Žižka´s Wound“, but also mead, young wine and others. All the streets near the square are full of the scent of roasting meat since an ox is roasted right there. Who could resist roast piglet, pickles, potato pancakes or bread with lard in the medieval market? You can find nice souvenirs to take home in the Old-Czech market – ceramics, scarves, spices, nuts coated in toffee or gingerbread. Sunday is traditonally reserved for the European Heritage Day. So, these are some of the reasons why the festival is annually attended by thousands of people.
